John Anderson began riding at the age of six in his hometown of Calgary, Alberta, and first became a member of the Canadian Show Jumping Team in 1985. Riding Goby, Anderson was a member of the fourth-placed Canadian team at the 1986 World Championships and represented Canada at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.
In recent years, Anderson has enjoyed impressive results at Spruce Meadows. In 2008, he won the lucrative $175,000 Chrysler Classic riding Gesine 36, and capped off the season by earning the Mercedes-Benz Leading Canadian Rider Award at the Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament. In 2009 riding Terrific, John was named the Canadian Champion at the “National” Tournament and, in September, represented Canada in the BMO Nations’ Cup.
Anderson is the eldest of four children, all whom have been members of the Canadian Equestrian Team. Anderson is also a busy competition organizer, running numerous Rocky Mountain Show Jumping events each year at his family’s Anderson Ranch. In addition to the show jumping ring, Anderson can often be found on the golf course.
