June 5, 2009 – Schomberg, Ontario – North American breeders have the final opportunity to breed to the Olympic Champion horse, Hickstead, for the 2009 season.

With Canada’s Eric Lamaze, Hickstead won Individual Gold and Team Silver Medals at the 2008 Olympic Games. A 1996 brown Dutch Warmblood stallion standing 16hh, Hickstead is by Hamlet while his dam, Jomara, is by the well-known and recently deceased stallion, Ekstein. Hickstead’s bloodlines also feature such prominent show jumping names as Nimmerdor, Notaris, Ulft, Le Mexico and Joost. Based on his performance record, Hickstead is currently ranked the number one show jumping horse in the world by the World Breeding Federation of Sport Horses (WBFSH). He was also named ‘Stallion of the Year’ by the KWPN and ‘Jumping Horse of the Year’ by the FEI for 2008.

In addition to being registered with the KWPN, Hickstead has been approved for breeding based on performance by the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association, the American Holsteiner Horse Association (AHHA), and the KWPN of North America breed associations.

Offered for the first time in North America for the 2009 season, Hickstead is represented exclusively in North America by experienced horseman and breeder, Francis Berger. Limited doses of frozen semen are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at a cost of $5,500 US per dose.
