October 31, 2008 – Monterrey, Mexico – JustWorld International Mexico hosted the second
annual Teletón Charity Horse Show on October 28 in Monterrey, Mexico.
JustWorld Mexico is a branch of JustWorld International, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of disadvantaged children in the developing world, focused specifically on aiding charities in Mexico. Working in partnership with Prodeport to organize the Teletón Charity Horse Show, JustWorld International Mexico raised approximately $120,000 US for the well-known Mexican children's charity, Teletón Foundation.
Sold out weeks in advance, a crowd of 1,200 gathered for the one-night show jumping event sponsored by CN, CN WorldWide, and Soriana. Competing for $30,000 in prize money as well as a new Pontiac G5 car donated by General Motors, Mexico’s top show jumping riders took on international riders including Charlotte Van Breemen of the Netherlands, Fidel Segovia of Argentina, Juan Jose Bancalari of the Dominican Republic, Luis Fernando Larrazabal of Venezuela, and Brazilian riders Alberto Fernandez, Eduardo Filizola, Rodrigo Lambre, Jefferson Martins, Eduardo Menezes, Carlos Myrrha and Paulo Santana.
As the last rider to go in the jump-off, it was Dutch rider Van Breemen who claimed victory riding Tempo la Escondida while Brazilian rider Menezes was the runner-up with Little Darco. Mexican riders then claimed the next three spots with Eduardo Vazques placing third, Alberto Aldana finishing fourth, and Antonio Maurer, who subsequently donated all of his prize money back to JustWorld International Mexico, rounding out the top five.
Two-time Olympic course designer and member of JustWorld International’s Board of Directors, Leopoldo Palacios of Venezuela, set the track with assistance from officials Javier Fernandez, Manuel Esparza, Flora Baptiston, Bertha Fernandez, Catalina Cruz, Guilermo Diaz and Florencio Hernandez.
“This year’s event was absolutely fantastic!” exclaimed Newman, Executive Director of JustWorld International. “I am so impressed with the hard work and dedication of the JustWorld Mexico team and all of the volunteers and officials who put so much effort into making this event such a success. JustWorld has taken on a life of its own with so many people creating initiatives within our mission in their own countries.”
This special event, held at the Centro Ecuestre San Pedro A.C (CESPAC) facility, saw spectators treated to an exciting evening of show jumping as well as a performance by Mexican recording artist and soap opera star, Pablo Montero.
Helping to make the event a great success were the JustWorld International Mexico organizing team comprised of Maria Fernanda Palacios (daughter of Leopoldo), Manuel Sada, Oscar Soberon and Patricio Zambrano.
