October 4, 2007 – Whitby, ON – It is with great pleasure that Intervet Canada Ltd. introduces the Intervet FoalCare Program, the industry’s first integrated foal-heath program developed especially to educate horse owners concerning the essential first steps for a lifetime of horse healthcare, including routine foal examinations, nutrition and strategic deworming and vaccination programs. All of this while promoting compliance with the veterinarian.

“The FoalCare program is a wealth of information for horse owners from broodmare to foal care,” says Rick Conrad, DVM, Intervet Equine Technical Services Veterinarian. “The Intervet FoalCare Program guides the horse owner from preparing the mare for breeding, through pregnancy and foaling, continuing into raising the foal.”

The Intervet FoalCare Program includes information to track growth and medical history, as well as information on how to evaluate, monitor, feed, vaccinate and deworm the foal. The Program includes a Web site, healthcare wheel and information packed brochure. The Web site, www.foalcare.ca, provides tools and downloadable charts that veterinarians and horse owners can use to track the growth and health of the foal.

Prestige® IV FoalShot with Havlogen® Equine Vaccine
Complimenting the new Intervet FoalCare Program, Intervet has proudly introduced Prestige IV FoalShot. It is the first vaccine developed especially for the foal. The new four-way vaccine combines antigens for Eastern and Western Encephalomyelitis (EEE, WEE), Tetanus and Equine Herpesvirus 1 and 4 (EHV-1, EHV-4) in the convenience of a low-volume, low-reaction 1mL dose. The vaccine does not contain influenza, resolving the concern about maternal antibody interference in young foals.

Other products from Intervet that support healthy foal development include: Regu-Mate (altrenogest) indicated to suppress estrus in mares; Prodigy to aid in the prevention of abortion caused by EHV-1 infections; Panacur Paste 10% which is effective against larvae and helps treat ascarids (roundworms) that virtually all foals are exposed to during the first 6 months of life; Quadrisol (vedaprofen) the NSAID of choice for treating foals and lactating mares; and FluAvert I.N. for protection against influenza.
