August 16, 2007 – White Plains, New York – At this year's Hampton Classic Horse Show, JustWorld International and its work with underprivileged children in developing nations will be in the spotlight.
Founded in 2002 by former grand prix show jumping competitor Jessica Newman, JustWorld International has worked to bring together the equestrian community and others with the goal of improving the lives of disadvantaged children in the developing world. With show jumping riders around the world signing up to become JustWorld Rider Ambassadors, Newman has mobilized some of the sport's biggest names towards supporting JustWorld’s projects in Cambodia, Honduras, Senegal, Kenya, and Brazil. To date, over 80 riders have become ambassadors including such famous Olympians as Markus Fuchs of Switzerland, Kevin Babington of Ireland, and Peter Leone of the United States Through donations of prize money or proceeds from clinics, volunteering at the JustWorld International information booth at some of the world's biggest horse shows, or simply by telling people about JustWorld's projects, these riders have chosen to make a difference by competing . . . with a purpose. The Jump for a Just World program starts with members of the international equestrian community -- riders from the United States, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. These exemplary equestrians not only raise funds but also awareness within the close-knit equestrian community. From junior riders to professionals, any rider can make a difference. With many of the Rider Ambassadors wearing the JustWorld signature blue jacket every time they go in the ring, as well as custom saddle pads and fly sheets, JustWorld is at the forefront of the equestrian stage. The contributions that Rider Ambassadors make to Just World are not simply monetary. More than twenty professional and amateur riders and donors from the equestrian community have visited JustWorld's project sites in Honduras and Cambodia. This gives supporters a valuable opportunity to see first hand how their donations are being used and the children benefiting from JustWorld's work. In Honduras, JustWorld International works in several different communities around the country. In the coastal village of Tornabe, JustWorld International helps to feed and educate children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. In the capital city of Tegucigalpa, JustWorld and its Honduran partner organization, Compartir, fund a mobile library project, bringing literature and reading promotion activities to over 600 children each month in marginalized communities. JustWorld additionally has a painting program to help keep at-risk youth off the streets. In the rural communities outside of Tegucigalpa, JustWorld works with Angelworks, a scholarship program helping to fund the education of children with outstanding academic achievement. In Cambodia JustWorld International collaborates with two dedicated Cambodian organizations that work to educate children from impoverished communities. Working with the People Improvement Organization, JustWorld International funds schools in the most impoverished communities within the capital city, bringing formal and non-formal education, nutrition, health, hygiene, and cultural programs to hundreds of elementary-aged schoolchildren. With Cambodian partner PSO, JustWorld International funds kindergarten education for children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in slums around the capital of Phnom Penh. In Senegal, JustWorld International partners with the established Senegalese organization Tostan, helping to provide education for over 1,000 street children in the city of Thies. Meanwhile, in Brazil, JustWorld works with the Fundacao Pavel, the only organization of its kind in the remote town of Barao de Grajau, providing education and access to health care among its many outreach programs for disadvantaged children and families. In Nairobi, Kenya, JustWorld International provides basic education to young children in the slum of Kigabare. JustWorld International is proud to have been invited to be a part of the prestigious Hampton Classic Horse Show. The Hampton Classic is generously holding the annual Exhibitor’s Party in honor of JustWorld International this year. During this party on Friday, August 31, JustWorld will be organizing a 'horseless horse show' as well as a silent auction. Please join JustWorld International to learn more about the projects and what you can do to help. Founded in 2002, JustWorld International raises awareness and funds in the equestrian community to support humanitarian projects that benefit impoverished communities and children in the developing world.
