August 24, 2006 – Collingwood, Ontario – For the second time this season, Roberto Teran and Distant Star 3E topped the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series when it was held on August 11 (Four, Five and Six-Year-Olds) and August 18 (Seven and Eight-Year-Olds) during the Collingwood Horse Show in Collingwood, ON.

Having won the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division at the Cornerstone Horse Show in Barrie, ON, at the end of June, Teran and Distant Star 3E made another trip to the winner's circle in Collingwood. Riding for owner and breeder KingRidge Stables of King, ON, Teran guided Distant Star to victory with the fastest four-fault effort in the jump-off. A grey Canadian Sport mare that has grown up in the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series and, interestingly, was the only Canadian-bred horse competing in the Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division, Distant Star 3E is by Class Action and out of Betwixt by Night Twist.

Canadian Olympian Beth Underhill held down the next two spots in the standings. Riding the seven-year-old Kinsale for owners Burmonds & Wetmore, Underhill had four faults in the jump-off. Not surprising since he was bred in County Kilkenny, well-known Irish breeding is prominent in Kinsale's bloodline as he boasts Puissance as his sire while his dam's sire was Clover Hill, Ireland's most prominent sire of international show jumping horses. Underhill also placed third riding Rhiannon for Triple Seal Ltd. The recently imported seven-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare is by Larino and out of a Wolfgang dam.

Not content with just one win, Teran also took top honours in Six-Year-Old Division. Having finished runner-up at the last event held at the Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament in Ottawa, ON, Teran and Executive Privilege 3E were settling for nothing but a win in Collingwood. And win they did, posting the fastest double clear round of the day to take home even more accolades for owner and breeder KingRidge Stables. Executive Privilege 3E is a Canadian Sport Horse by the KingRidge stallion, Class Action, and out of Galaxy 3E by Aerobic Z.

Finishing runner-up was Robert Sharpe riding Taboo's Tilia for owner Taboo International. A Dutch Warmblood by Cavalier, Taboo's Tilia was the first horse to tackle the jump-off track set by course designer Guilherme Jorge of Brazil, turning in a clear effort.

A Canadian-bred took third position. Michelle Vandal had the fastest four-fault jump-off effort riding Divine Diva, a Canadian Sport Horse mare owned by Vandal and Julie van Wieren. Bred by Jim Mackay, Divine Diva is by the thoroughbred sire, Vice Chancellor, and out of a Clydesdale mare.

A total of 19 horses contested the Five-Year-Old Division and, somewhat unbelievably, it was Hyde Moffatt who came out on top riding Unbelievable. While Moffatt's skill as a jockey is not a question - he has taken home more red ribbons and coolers this season in the Canadian Young Horse Development Series than any other competitor - what is amazing is the fact that it was his first time riding Unbelievable in the Young Horse Series. With Unbelievable's regular rider, Chris Pratt, in Germany preparing for the World Equestrian Games, owner and breeder Susan Grange of Lothlorien Farm handed the reins over to Moffatt. And what a fine job he did, guiding the Canadian Sport Horse gelding by Voltaire to the win.

While Brock Clermont piloted his own Goliath to second place, Ainsley Vince of Milton, ON, slid into third position riding the KMA Group's Frieda, a German-bred by For Future by For Pleasure.

For the second time in a row, Hyde Moffatt and Courvoisier won the Four-Year-Old Division while Moffatt also placed second with Or de Vy. A clear round and the highest style score of the day gave an easy win to Lianne Selke's Courvoisier, a Holsteiner gelding by Casco. Moffatt's second-placed horse, Or de Vy, is a Belgian Sport Horse gelding by Fidji du Fleury that is owned by Mark Hayes.

Making it three for three, Moffatt also guided Withoutadoubt to third place in the standings for owner and breeder Susan Grange. The Canadian Sport Horse gelding is by Jamestown by Quidam de Revel and out of Hiffi by the selle francais sire, Fleuri de Manoir.

The purpose of the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series is to encourage the development of young show jumping talent and to give Canadian breeders additional incentives to breed superior show jumping prospects. Competing on a level playing field, the horses are divided according to age and jump at a level suited to their development. This careful development allows the horses to gain valuable experience and advance to the higher levels of show jumping competition with confidence. The Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series also gives prospective buyers for the hunter and jumper markets an opportunity to view a large group of prospects in a competition setting.

The 2006 Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series will include nine events in Ontario, as well as additional events in Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. The Canadian Young Horse National Championships will then be held September 20-24 during the CSI-W Tournament of Champions in Palgrave, ON. The next event in the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series will take place during the Fox Run Horse Show in Troy, ON, from August 25-27.

Proud supporters of the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series include Jump Canada, the Ontario Hunter Jumper Association, 4 Star Trailers, TD Waterhouse, Scotia McLeod, Peter Miller, Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association, W.
