June 24, 2006 – Monte Carlo, Monaco – The second day of the Jumping International de
Monte-Carlo marked great success for Jan Tops, the man behind the
Global Champions Tour (GCT). Australian competitor Edwina Alexander,
who rides for Tops Stables, won Friday's featured event, the Prix
Mediterranean Netwerk s.a.m., riding Isovlas Socrates. In addition,
Daniel Deusser (GER), who also competed for the Tops Stables, finished
as the runner-up with Aktion Pur. Olympic Champion Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA)
took third place with Oasis.
Daniel Deusser, who began riding in The Netherlands at the end of May, had won the GCT Friendship Challenge sponsored by Chesapeake Petroleum earlier in the week. A special class as both the organizer and sponsor graciously donated a generous amount of money to JustWorld International, the official charity of the Global Champions Tour. With Issis du Marais, he posted the fastest time to top a jump-off field of 19 competitors.
"I would not have dreamed of being so successful here. The horses did give me the feeling that we could manage the jumps, but that we were so fast in the jump-off was amazing!" said the talented 24-year-old afterwards.
Runner-up was Austria's Thomas Frühmann with Limited Edition while Wim Schellekens (NED) was third with Stapp’s Phentagera.
