February 18, 2005 – Wellington, Florida – Show jumping is a family affair for the Vince
sisters, Ainsley, Courtney and Sydney, who will all be competing at the
Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, this season.
Ainsley, the eldest and most accomplished of the trio, is most often in the spotlight, but the talent and dedication of her two younger sisters may soon have them following in her footsteps. Only 28, Ainsley has represented Canada at the 2000, 2003 and 2004 World Cup Finals and also won back-to-back Canadian Show Jumping Championship titles in 2001 and 2002. Ainsley enjoyed a particularly strong 2004 season, starting at the Winter Equestrian Festival where she was a member of the victorious Canadian Team in the Nations’ Cup, a title she hopes to be chosen to defend on March 11, 2005. With three grand prix horses – the prolific Catch 22, the handsome stallion Kafka and the newest member of her barn, Uno, Ainsley has the horsepower to keep winning in the Grand Prix ring. While Ainsley spends her winters in Wellington, FL, operating her own training and sales business, Courtney, 25, and Sydney, 22, continue to work with Canadian Equestrian Team member Eric Lamaze. Courtney has gotten her feet wet at the Grand Prix level, earning short-listed status with the Canadian Show Jumping Team in 2004. Sydney, meanwhile, successfully competed at the North American Young Riders’ Championships, and is steadily climbing the show jumping ranks. “We are sisters, but we are also really good friends,” says Ainsley, who tries to keep the same show schedule as her sisters as often as possible. “We help each other, and we can offer each other a different perspective. We all give the other two a shoulder to lean on.” As for their personalities, Ainsley says, “I think I am very determined, and the biggest risk taker. I have a very strong competitive streak. Courtney loves horses, and I think she rides and competes for the pure love of the animal. She is a little softer, quieter, and more reserved. Sydney is always making jokes and is a social butterfly. I think that she and I are a little more alike in our personalities.” Surprisingly, neither of their parents, Don and Marsie, is involved in the horse industry, but they are extremely supportive of their daughters' interest in equestrian sport, and can often be found ringside. “We are a really close family,” notes Ainsley. “It is important to realize that your success is going to come and go, but you will always need good people around you as a support system. I think our parents have raised us to have good values, and we all have a strong work ethic.” While all three young women are focused on their show jumping careers, they also all have solid educations to fall back on. Ainsley has studied interior design while Courtney earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Toronto. Sydney is in her final year of the same program, also at the University of Toronto. |
