January 24, 2005 – Wellington, Florida – The second annual ‘Jump for a Just World’ Training Show and Fundraiser held January 21 and 22, 2005, in Wellington, FL, again met with overwhelming success. The event benefits JustWorld International, a not-for-profit, humanitarian organization founded to prepare and empower students to become visionary leaders and work for social justice by assisting orphans and underprivileged children.
A Training Show, expanded to two days in order to accommodate the large number of entries, saw the biggest names in the sport donating their entry fees to JustWorld International in exchange for the opportunity to jump on the private grass grand prix field at Belle Herbe Farm. FEI course designer Hector Loyola of Puerto Rico treated riders to the perfect warm-up for the Winter Equestrian Festival, opening on January 26. Olympians Lauren Hough, Beezie Madden and McLain Ward all supported the Training Show, as did JustWorld rider representatives Kevin Babington of Ireland, Angela Covert of Canada, Herve Godignon of France, Eric Lamaze of Canada, Titi Mills of Honduras, Ray Texel of the United States, and several young rider and junior rider representatives. Following the two day Training Show, it was time to celebrate with a dinner and live auction, again hosted by Belle Herbe Farm in Grand Prix Village. Almost 300 guests enjoyed the dinner catered by Ken Rose Catering and then laughed at the antics of The Flying Frenchman, a trio of athletic brothers from France who entertained the crowd by jumping grand prix fences on foot! The live auction was a huge success, with training sessions offered by French Olympian Herve Godignon and a beautiful life-size bronze horse sculpture attracting the highest bids. Other items offered on the auction block included an original painting by a Cambodian orphan artist, handmade wooden trunks and a coffee table from Honduras, goods from Idlewood Stables, golf lessons and beautiful jewelry. Between entry fees for the training show, dinner tickets and live auction proceeds, approximately $100,000 was raised in support of JustWorld International. “The great success of the second annual JustWorld International fundraiser bears witness to the interest and remarkable enthusiasm of not only the corporate world, but also the eagerness of the equestrian community to support a worthy cause,” noted JustWorld International Executive Director Jessica Newman. JustWorld International Rider Representatives include Angela Covert of Canada, Kevin Babington of Ireland, Christophe Barbeau of Switzerland, Marcus Fuchs of Switzerland, Herve Godignon of France, Imke Hofschroer of Germany, Eric Lamaze of Canada, Rutherford Latham of Spain, Olivier Guillon of France, Candice King of the United States, Titi Mills of Honduras, Eric Navet of France, Ray Texel of the United States, Gregory Wathelet of Belgium, and the newest member of the ‘Jump for a JustWorld’ initiative, Ludo Philippaerts of Belgium. Through various initiatives, including donating a portion of their prize money or giving clinics to benefit JustWorld International, riders are able to support the organization’s projects and programs. Founded in 2002, JustWorld International offers fellowship programs for students from around the globe to learn leadership skills and acquire the tools necessary to make a positive difference in the world. With three project sites located in Cambodia, Honduras and Senegal, students are working for change in a wide variety of environments on behalf of JustWorld International.
