Second Win in a Row for Peter Gisborne and VDL Roger
in Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series |
September 24, 2004 – Troy, Ontario – For the second time in row, Peter Gisborne and VDL
Roger were victorious in the Six-Year-Old Division of the 2004 Canadian
Young Horse Jumper Development Series held Sunday, September 19, at the
Fox Run Horse Show in Troy, ON.
Having celebrated their first victory two weeks earlier at the Halton Valley Summer Tournament in Milton, ON, Gisborne and VDL Roger once again took home the red ribbon. Bred in the Netherlands and imported one year ago by owner Hogendoorn Sport Horses, VDL Roger, a Dutch Warmblood by Indoctro out of a Landgraf I mare, gained experience competing in Europe as a five-year-old.
The Six-Year-Old Division ended up being ‘Dutch dominated’ as the second and third placed entries, Rhianna and Ruben, were also Dutch Warmbloods. Owned by Gary Moroney of Aurora, ON, Rhianna, a mare by N and out of a Lord Z dam, placed second while Ruben, a gelding by Concorde, finished third for owner Scanmar Portfolios. Both horses were ridden by Hyde Moffat.
After placing second the last time out, Double Diamond jumped to the top of the highly-competitive Five-Year-Old Division. Ridden by Hugh Graham and owned by KingRidge Stables, Double Diamond is a Belgian Warmblood stallion by Nabab de Reve and out of a Chin Chin mare.
A newcomer to the Series, Watch Me Do, took second place for owner Beth Underhill Stables. The Canadian Olympian recenlty purchased the Belgian Warmblood gelding by Darco and out of a Galoubet mare, from another Olympian, Ludo Philipaertes of Belgium. Third place went to Winetore, owned by Mill Creek Stables. The Belgian Warmblood gelding by Canaletto only began his show career this year under 18-year-old Tonya Henning of Cambridge, ON.
For the fifth time this season, Pour Patrice W claimed victory in the Four-Year-Old Division. Shown by Erynn Ballard for owner Charles Ormston, the founder and past Chair of the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series, Pour Patrice W is a Hannoverian stallion by Pour Gagne and out of a Rio Grande mare that was bred in Canada by W. Charlot Farms.
Finishing second was Charlie Brown, a Hannoverian gelding by Chasseur who is owned by Louise Palmer of South Lane Farm and shown by Francois Lamontagne. Third place went to Encore, a Canadian Sport Horse gelding by Class Action and out of the Grand Prix show jumping mare, Alley Cat. Owned by KingRidge Stables, Encore was ridden by Hugh Graham.
The Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series event at the Fox Run Horse Show was proudly sponsored by TD Private Client Group who had over 240 guests in attendance. A complimentary lunch, available to all, was generously provided by Turtle Jack’s restaurant.
Fox Run marked the final event in the 2004 Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series prior to the Ontario Championships. Held September 23 at the Tournament of Champions in Palgrave, ON, the Ontario Championships will see the best young horses compete for a total of $12,000 in prize money - $5,000 each for the Five and Six-Year-Old Divisions, and $2,000 for the Four-Year-Old Division, Presented by W. Charlot Farms.
Currently leading the Six-Year-Old Division is the Mill Creek Stables entry of Kaiser de le Cour with a total of 57 points. The selle francais stallion by Verdi, a son of Narcos II, was crowned last year’s Five-Year-Old National Champion and will be looking to reclaim victory in 2004. However, with 54 points, VDL Roger is quickly gaining.
Double Diamond sits atop the hotly contested Five-Year-Old Division with 80 points, while the Four-Year-Old Ontario Champion, Rio’s Ricardo, a Canadian Warmblood stallion, is in second position with 75 points. The two will go head-to-head at the Ontario Championships for the title.
Pour Patrice W has such a commanding lead in the Four-Year-Old Division, winning five of the six events he contested, that he is assured of being crowned the 2004 Ontario Four-Year-Old Champion.
In the Four and Five-Year-Old Divisions, horses are judged solely on their performance and style. In the Six-Year-Old Division, the top eight horses return for a jump-off, carrying forward any faults accumulated in the first round. Points in the overall Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series are tabulated according to the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Cup system with the number of points given being based on the number of horses entered in each class.
The purpose of the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series is to encourage the development of young show jumping talent and to give Canadian breeders additional incentives to breed superior show jumping prospects. Competing on a level playing field, the horses are divided according to age and jump at a level suited to their development as four, five or six-year-olds. This careful development allows the young horses to gain valuable experience and advance to the higher levels of show jumping competition with confidence. The Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series also gives prospective buyers for the hunter and jumper markets an opportunity to view a large group of prospects in a competition setting.
The 2004 Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series is comprised of nine events. Following the Ontario Championships on September 23, qualified horses in the Five and Six-Year-Old Divisions will advance to the National Championships. Hosted by Toronto’s famed Royal Horse Show on November 7, $16,000 in prize money will be offered in addition to two saddles that have been generously donated for the winning entries at the National Championships - Cavalier will award an Amerigo saddle while Running Fox will present a Luc Childeric saddle.
Proud supporters of the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series include the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association, Cavalier, 4 Star Trailers, Gary Cooper Chev Olds, Tim Grubb, Henry Equestrian Insurance Brokers Ltd., Horseware Ireland, KingRidge Stables, Kim Kirton, Dr. Alan Manning, Peter Miller, the Ontario Hunter Jumper Association, Charles Ormston, Running Fox, Scotia McLeod, TD Canada Trust and W.
