The first edition of the Auction Breeders Awards was held before the start of the sale. The Auction paid tribute to the best breeders of 2021 during an award ceremony. Baudouin Rémy, RTL commentator and comedian, was the master of ceremony with his unique blend of equestrian knowledge and political humour.

Amongst the prestigious guests, Belgian Olympic riders Gregory Wathelet and Niels Bruynseels and European Champion Olivier Philippaerts were on stage to present an award, as well as WBFSH World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses general manager, Nadine Brandtner.

Amongst the nine award recipients were Joris de Bradander for his mare Derly Chin de Muze; Damien Haelterman from Haras de Laubry for Cordula de Laubry; and the “godfather of sport horses breeding” Paul Schockemohle, named best breeder of 2021, who made his acceptance speech via video. A special “People’s Choice Award,” determined through social network votes, went to Wim Impens, breeder of Henrick Von Eckermann’s Olympic superstar, King Edward, who was voted favourite Belgian-bred Olympic horse.

Christophe Ameeuw concluded, “I am so proud to have here with us tonight in Ecaussinnes some of the best breeders in the world. Belgium a land of breeding, where some of the world’s best sport horses are produced, as we saw in the Olympics in Tokyo. We want to celebrate and say thank you to all the breeders who contribute so much to our sport.”
