Canadian Dressage Team Third in Nations’ Cup in Wellington, Florida

March 18, 2022 – Wellington, FL – Beatrice Boucher, Pia Fortmuller, Megan Lane, and Evi Strasser formed the Canadian Dressage Team that placed third in the Stillpoint Farm CDIO3* Nations’ Cup competition held March 17 and 18, 2022, during week 10 of the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival in Wellington, FL.

As the defending champions, Germany retained its title in the team event with a total score of 433.337 points while the home nation of the United States was narrowly edged into second place with 432.265. Canada placed third with a total score of 409.091. Canada has won the Nations’ Cup on one occasion, in 2017, since the event’s inception in 2016.

Teams for the Nations’ Cup were comprised of small and large tour combinations with an extra 1.5 points added to the scores of large tour combinations. Beatrice Boucher, 24, of St. Dominique, QC, contested the small tour for Canada, earning scores of 69.912% in the CDIO3* Prix St. Georges and 67.647% in Friday’s CDIO3* Intermediate I riding Summerwood’s Limei, a nine-year-old Hanoverian mare (Londonderry x Weltmeyer) owned by Monica Von Glahn.

Fortmuller, Lane, and Strasser all rode in the large tour division. In Thursday’s CDIO3* Grand Prix competition, Strasser, 58, of Ste. Adele, QC, was the top-placed Canadian riding Déjà Vu Tyme, her Hanoverian gelding (Dauphin x Werbellin), to a score of 65.522%. Lane, 30, of Loretto, ON, was right behind her teammate, posting 65.457% with Zodiac MW, an 18-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding (Rousseau x Amethist) owned by Deer Ridge Equestrian. Fortmuller, 36, of Foothills, AB, scored 63.239% for her ride on Frieda, an 11-year-old Hanoverian mare (Fuerstenball x Rouletto) that she owns in partnership with Lars Busch. As only the three best scores are counted towards the team total, Fortmuller’s score was dropped.

In the CDIO3* Grand Prix Special on Friday, it was Lane who was the top-placed Canadian with a score of 67.851% followed by Fortmuller with 66.702%. Strasser and Déjà Vu Tyme posted 64.638%, which was dropped from Friday’s team total.

Last year, Boucher had been a member of Canada’s victorious Under 25 Nations’ Cup team and this year moved up to the top level of the sport to join the senior team.

“Moving up to the senior team, there is an expression in French that is, ‘la cour de grand.’ It’s really like you go into the big league, and the spirit of big competition and teamwork,” said Boucher of her senior team debut. “It’s really a big step up, and I like it!”

While the senior team placed third on this occasion, Camille Carier Bergeron of Laval, QC, and Vanessa Creech-Terauds of Caistor Center, ON, won the CDIO-U25 Nations’ Cup for Canada one day earlier, signalling a bright future for the Canadian Dressage Team.
