August 26, 2014 – Caen, France – Canadian Olympian David Marcus of Campbellville, ON, riding Chrevi’s Capital placed 34th individually at the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France.

In order to accommodate 100 competitors representing 31 countries in the dressage portion of World Equestrian Games competition, the opening phase of Grand Prix was held over two days on August 25 and 26. Marcus and Chrevi’s Capital, a 14-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding (Chrevi’s Cavallo x Weinberg) owned by Deborah Kinzinger, competed in wet conditions on opening day, earning a score of 70.357% for 12th place in the provisional standings. At the conclusion of Grand Prix competition on August 26, Marcus and Chrevi’s Capital finished 34th overall in the final standings.

“It's been a long road to get here and, for me, the World Equestrian Games has been an amazing experience,” said Marcus. “Unfortunately, my 34th place finish won’t get me through to the next round, but I couldn’t be happier or more proud of my horse, my team and my ride.”

The top 30 riders following the Grand Prix move forward to the Grand Prix Special on August 27. With his 34th place finish, Marcus came very close to making the cut.

As a team, Canada finished in ninth place with a total of 211.714 points. Joining Marcus on the Canadian Dressage Team was Megan Lane of Loretto, ON, riding Caravella, Karen Pavicic of Surrey, BC, riding Don Daiquiri and Belinda Trussell of Stouffville, ON, riding Anton. Germany won Team Gold with a total of 241.700, followed by Great Britain for Silver with 231.343. The Netherlands took the Bronze Medal with 227.400.

“I am thrilled that I had the opportunity to represent Canada at these Games and look forward to many, many more,” said Marcus, 33. “A huge and sincere ‘thank you’ to everyone that has been a part of this journey and have supported me throughout. I could not have done it without them. A special ‘thank you’ goes to my owner, Deborah Kinzinger, whose unwavering confidence is more than anyone could ever hope for.”

Marcus is coached by Oded Shimoni while Alison Malatestinic acts as Chrevi’s Capital’s groom. His partner, Australian grand prix competitor Nicholas Fyffe, also plays an invaluable role, keeping David Marcus Dressage, a full-service dressage training facility in Campbellville, ON, running smoothly while Marcus is overseas training and competing.

Chrevi’s Capital will now enjoy a well-deserved rest while Marcus turns his attention to his second Grand Prix mount, Don Kontes. Marcus and the 14-year-old Swedish Warmblood gelding, also owned by Kinzinger, have been invited to the inaugural Central Park Horse Show, presented by Rolex, to be held in the heart of New York City from September 18 to 21.

Marcus made his Olympic debut at the 2012 London Olympic Games, and, in 2013, won the North American World Cup League. With the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games behind him, the next milestone Marcus will be aiming for is the 2015 Pan American Games, hosted close to home by Toronto.
