17-Year-Old Emanuel Andrade Makes Team Debut at Bolivarian Games

November 27, 2013 – Trujillo, Peru – Emanuel Andrade of Caracas, Venezuela, placed fifth in the opening day of show jumping competition at the 2013 Bolivarian Games taking place in Trujillo, Peru. Andrade, who is only 17 years of age, is making his debut on the Venezuelan Show Jumping Team.

Venezuela dominated the opening day of speed competition, taking four of the top five placings from a starting field of 36 entries. Pablo Barrios claimed the win in a time of 60.73 seconds riding Zara Leandra. The only rider to break up the Venezuelan domination, Mark Bluman of Colombia, guided G&C Legran to second place in a time of 61.14 seconds. He was followed by Andres Rodriguez in a time of 62.87 with Elatrice while Luis Larrazabal was fourth riding Cosmea 14 in a time of 63.78 seconds. Andrade crossed the timers in 64.47 seconds with ZZ Top v/h Schaarbroek, a 12-year-old bay Zangersheide gelding (Zandor Z x Latus I), for an incredible top five placing in his senior team debut.

A veteran of junior team competition, Andrade scored his first grand prix victory earlier this year by winning the $50,000 Grand Prix of Roanoke in June at the Roanoke Valley Horse Show in Salem, VA, with another mount, Walter 61.

Show jumping competition at the Bolivarian Games continues on Thursday, November 28, with the Nations’ Cup to determine team medals. Individual competition concludes on Saturday, November 30, after which individual medals will be awarded.

A student in his hometown of Caracas, Andrade divides his time between competing in Venezuela and the United States. He trains with Angel Karolyi, a member of the Venezuelan gold medal team at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games, and renowned horsewoman Andrea King, at Hollow Creek Farm in Aiken, South Carolina.

Hollow Creek Farm had the unique distinction of winning three prestigious titles at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL. At only 16 years of age, Andrade was named the Leading Jumper Rider, King and Karolyi were named the Leading Jumper Trainer, and Hollow Creek Farm was named the Leading Jumper Owner.
