Jump Canada Hall of Fame to Take Brief Hiatus

August 15, 2013 –Toronto, Ontario – Following seven increasingly popular editions, the Jump Canada Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Gala is taking a hiatus in 2013.

Traditionally held the first Sunday evening of each November in Toronto, ON, the Jump Canada Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Gala will not be held in 2013 as the committee evaluates the past success of the black-tie event and considers any potential changes to the format for the future.

“Our committee is so proud of what we have created with the Hall of Fame.  It has not only served to enshrine the heroes of our sport, it has also inspired the current generation of participants in our sport to aspire to similar achievement and recognition,” said Mark Samuel, Chairman of the Jump Canada Hall of Fame.  “Our committee felt that now was the perfect time to take a step back, to catch our breath, and to dream about where we should go next with the Hall of Fame.  We look forward to seeing everyone in November 2014 as we once again convene to induct a new slate of Champions.”

In an incredibly special evening honouring the greatest ambassadors of our sport, Canadian show jumping legends Ian Millar and Hickstead were the last inductees in 2012.  In total, 17 horses and ponies, 19 humans, five organizations, and three teams have been recognized since the Hall of Fame’s inception.

The Jump Canada Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Gala, generously supported by BMO Financial Group, was created in 2006 to recognize outstanding contributions to hunter/jumper sport.  The Hall of Fame Gala quickly grew into an annual favourite and was a sold-out event in its first seven years.  Since then, friends and colleagues have come together each year to celebrate the accomplishments of each Hall of Fame inductee, making for a very special evening recalling the sport’s greatest moments and memories.

The Jump Canada Hall of Fame committee is comprised of Mark Samuel (Chairman), Jennifer Anstey, Evie Frisque, Muffie Guthrie, Dalene Paine, Jennifer Ward and Nancy Wetmore.

Jump Canada is the committee of Equine Canada responsible for all hunter, equitation and jumper activities in Canada from the grass roots to the international level.  Jump Canada is governed by a board, the majority of whose members are elected by the stakeholders in the sport.  For more information regarding Jump Canada programs and activities, visit http://www.equinecanada.ca/jumpcanada/.
