February 2, 2012 – Wellington, FL Canada’s Yann Candele topped a starting field of 81 horses to win the $32,000 WEF Challenge Cup Round IV, as well as a $3,000 bonus from SSG Riding Gloves, on Thursday, February 2, at the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.

After the field was narrowed down to 15 jump-off contenders, Candele raced around the shortened track in a time of 47.51 seconds to take the win over Beezie Madden who had clocked in at 47.81 seconds riding Cortes ‘C.’  Candele was riding Carlotta Singular La Magnifica, a 10-year-old Hannoverian mare owned by Susan Grange.  In addition to winning, Candele claimed a $3,000 cash bonus from SSG Riding Gloves for winning while wearing SSG ‘Digital’ riding gloves.

“You see less and less riders that don’t wear the gloves,” noted Candele of the SSG ‘Go Clean for the Green’ promotion.  “Last year, there were four or five weeks that the bonus wasn’t won because the winner wasn’t wearing them.  This year, I’ll be surprised if it’s more than one or two weeks that the bonus isn’t claimed.”

Candele, who also won a $3,000 bonus during last year’s inaugural SSG promotion, continued by saying, “It is such a good product.  I’ve been wearing SSG gloves for years, and now I only wear the ‘Digital’ style.  It’s a great promotion, and we are very glad that it’s part of the circuit.”

With his win in week four, Candele broke Nick Skelton’s winning streak.  Skelton of Great Britain had claimed the WEF Challenge Cup in both weeks two and three to pocket $9,000 in SSG bonus money.

Now in its second year, the SSG Riding Gloves ‘Go Clean for the Green’ promotion offers a bonus of $3,000 each week to the winner of the WEF Challenge Series if they compete wearing SSG ‘Digital’ riding gloves.  In the weekly Junior Jumper High Classic and Amateur-Owner Jumper High Classic, a bonus of $1,000 is offered.

SSG ‘Digital’ Riding Gloves are available for purchase at numerous Wellington locations, including Tackeria, as well as on-site at the FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival show grounds at Running Fox, Beval Saddlery, Hadfield’s Saddlery, Ann K Hubbard’s Tack Shop and Jods.
