September 3, 2006 – Troy, Ontario – Frankie Chesler scored her first victory of the season in the 2006 Canadian Young Horse Development Series by winning at the Fox Run Horse Show in Troy, ON, on August 27.

Chesler won the Six-Year-Old Division riding Aslan, a horse she imported in June. The chestnut Dutch Warmblood gelding is by Kigali and out of a dam by Le Mexico. Having shown in the Young Horse classes in Blainville, Ottawa, and Collingwood, the pair took home their first win at Fox Run. Of the four entries that advanced to the jump-off, Chesler and Aslan were the only combination to post a clear jumping round to claim victory.

"He is super careful, and really scopey," said Chesler of Orangeville, ON. "He's a lot of horse. He is also really handy for young horse as well as for a big horse - he is 17.1hh. He gets nervous because he is so careful, but he really tries and has a good heart."

Chesler's husband, Juan Ortiz, also enjoyed victory in the Young Horse Series, claiming the Five-Year-Old Division with For Rosas Pleasure.

"It was kind of weird that we both won our classes on the same day," laughed Chesler, 25. "But Juan also won in Ottawa, so now he has two coolers. I have to catch up to him!"

Taking second behind Chesler in the Six-Year-Old Division was Beth Underhill and Concorde's Tiantha. As the first back for the jump-off, Underhill and Concorde's Tiantha had the fastest four-fault effort. Owned by Tim Millard of Sentinel Farms, Concorde Tiantha is a Dutch Warmblood mare by Concorde and out of a Celano dam. Following a successful debut in the Young Horse Series in 2004 when she won two classes as a four-year-old, Concorde's Tiantha had last year off to produce a foal by Timebreaker, the 2005 National Five-Year-Old Champion.

Mill Creek Stables of Cambridge, ON, took third place in the Six-Year-Old Division. Rafael Annunciacao of Brazil was the rider of Sandhya, a Luxemburg mare by Silvio II out of a Mondial dam. After successfully showing as a five-year-old, Sandhya competed on the winter circuit in Wellington, Florida, earlier this year.

Hot off his win one month earlier at the Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament in Ottawa, ON, Ortiz once again guided For Rosas Pleasure to the top of the Five-Year-Old Division. A clear jumping effort combined with the highest style score of the day resulted in the victory. Owned by Sher-Al Farms, For Rosas Pleasure is a Canadian-bred mare out of a For Pleasure dam purchased earlier this year from breeder Dale Hawerchuk of Grande Farms in Orangeville, ON.

Taking second place was Debbie McFadden of London, ON, and her own VDL Ugene who also jumped a clear round but had a slightly lower style score. Bred in Canada by Henk Klunder of St. Agatha, ON, VDL Ugene is a registered Canadian Warmblood gelding that features impressive Dutch bloodlines - his sire is Indoctro while his dam is by Nimmerdor.

Once again, Annunciacao took third place for owner Mill Creek Stables, this time riding Valvoline. An attractive liver chestnut mare, Valvoline was bred in Germany and is by Voltaire and out of the Holsteiner sire, Calido. Mill Creek Stables also took fourth place with the Canadian-bred entry of Downtown, ridden by Sebastien Kapel of the Netherlands.

Mill Creek Stables took home the win in the Four-Year-Old Division. Annunciacao guided Allegro, a German-bred Hannoverian gelding by All in One and out of a Ritual dam, to the top of the field with a clear jumping round and a high style score for an incredible total of 97 out of 100.

The runner-up was Rio's Lancia W, a registered Oldenburg mare that was bred in Canada by owner Augustin Walch of W. Charlot Farms. By the well-known sire, Rio Grande, and out of a Landgraf I dam, Rio's Lancia W produced a clear round under Robert Blanchette.

Another Canadian-bred horse, VDL Viper H, took third spot for owner and rider Michelle Vandal of Milton, ON. Bred by Hogendoorn, VDL Viper H is a registered Dutch Warmblood by Corland out of an Ahorn dam that is enjoying his first year of showing.

The purpose of the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series is to encourage the development of young show jumping talent and to give Canadian breeders additional incentives to breed superior show jumping prospects. Competing on a level playing field, the horses are divided according to age and jump at a level suited to their development. This careful development allows the horses to gain valuable experience and advance to the higher levels of show jumping competition with confidence. The Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series also gives prospective buyers for the hunter and jumper markets an opportunity to view a large group of prospects in a competition setting.

The 2006 Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series includes nine events in Ontario, as well as additional events in Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. The Canadian Young Horse National Championships will then be held September 20-24 during the CSI-W Tournament of Champions in Palgrave, ON. The next event in the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series will take place during CSI-W Halton Place in Milton, ON, on September 3.
