July 21, 2006 – Ottawa, Ontario – Ainsley Vince proved to dominate the majority of classes held as part of the 2006 Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series on July 14 and 15 at the 'Kubota' Capital Classic Show Jumping Tournament in Ottawa, ON.

On Friday, the 1.30-1.40m class acted as the Seven and Eight-Year-Old competition and the winner was Yann Candele riding the Ashland Stables entry of Sun, the same pair that teamed up to win the second event in the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series in Palgrave, ON. Sun is a seven-year-old chestnut Dutch Warmblood gelding by Iroko out of a Concorde mare.

Hyde Moffat steered the Hawkestone Farms entry, Denver, to second position. Denver is a seven-year-old German Trakehner gelding by Donauwalzer. Mark Samuel took third place riding Wembley, a horse purchased by Chadburn Holdings this winter in Wellington, FL. A seven-year-old grey Belgian Warmblood gelding, Wembley is by Capital by the famous Holsteiner sire, Capitol I.

In the Six-Year-Old Division, Ainsley Vince of Milton, ON, claimed her first win of the season riding Top Gun, a Dutch Warmblood gelding by Corland. In the three-horse jump-off, Vince saved the best for last, clocking in at 46.13 seconds as the final challenger.

"This horse is fabulous," raved Vince, who began riding the handsome grey last September. "During the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida, I entered him in the Six-Year-Old classes during six of the seven weeks of competition and he never had a rail down during the first round."

"The other thing I like about him is that he actually jumps conventionally," laughed Vince, who is known for her ability to get along with unorthodox jumpers and often ends up riding more difficult horses.

Vince's jump-off time narrowly edged Roberto Teran into second place with a time of 46.54 seconds. Riding for KingRidge Stables, Teran was aboard Executive Privilege 3E, a Canadian Sport Horse by the KingRidge stallion, Class Action, and out of Galaxy 3E by Aerobic Z.

Having won three Young Horse classes so far this season, Hyde Moffat and Baron were relegated to third place in Ottawa. Although they were clear in the jump-off, their cautious approach to the jump-off resulted in two time faults. Owned by Mark Hayes, Baron is a selle francais gelding by Ulior des Isles out of a Narcos II dam that was imported in January.

In the Five-Year-Old Division, Juan Ortiz managed to stay ahead of Vince to claim the win riding For Rosas Pleasure. Owned by Sher-Al Farms of Orangeville, ON, For Rosas Pleasure is a Canadian-bred, out of a For Pleasure mare, that was purchased earlier this year from breeder Dale Hawerchuk. A clear jumping round and a style score of 45 resulted in victory.

Vince, a three-time Canadian Show Jumping Champion, then claimed second and third place in the standings. Riding the KMA Group's Frieda, who is by For Future by For Pleasure, Vince was clear and received a style score of 43 while Fresca, the entry of Torrey Pines Stable in Schomberg, ON, was also clear and was awarded 42 as its style score.

In the Four-Year-Old Division, Hyde Moffat was his own best competition. Riding the only two horses to successfully negotiate the course set by Conrad Homfeld, Moffat came out on top riding Courvoisier, a Holsteiner gelding by Casco, for owner Lianne Selke. He also placed second with Or de Vy, a Belgian Sport Horse gelding by Fidji du Fleury, for owner Mark Hayes. While both horses incurred four faults over the course, style judge Chris Kappler, Team Gold and Individual Silver Medallist at the 2004 Athens Olympics, awarded a higher style score to Courvoisier.

The purpose of the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series is to encourage the development of young show jumping talent and to give Canadian breeders additional incentives to breed superior show jumping prospects. Competing on a level playing field, the horses are divided according to age and jump at a level suited to their development. This careful development allows the horses to gain valuable experience and advance to the higher levels of show jumping competition with confidence. The Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series also gives prospective buyers for the hunter and jumper markets an opportunity to view a large group of prospects in a competition setting.

The 2006 Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series will include nine events in Ontario, as well as additional events in Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. The Canadian Young Horse National Championships will then be held September 20-24 during the CSI-W Tournament of Champions in Palgrave, ON. The next event in the Canadian Young Horse Jumper Development Series will take place during the Collingwood Horse Show on August 11 (Four, Five and Six-Year-Olds) and August 18 (Seven and Eight-Year-Olds).
