Names JustWorld International its Charity of Choice

September 30, 2004 – Paris, France – JustWorld International, a non-profit humanitarian organization that trains and empowers students to work for social justice, has been named the charity of choice by the CSI***** Brussels Horse Show.

Held November 11-14 in Brussels, BEL, the Brussels Horse Show is one of the most popular and prestigious indoor horse shows in Europe. Host of the Audi Equestrian Masters that sees 36 of the top 50 ranked riders in the world competing for both status and big prize money, the Brussels Horse Show combines world-class showing jumping sport with theatrical spectacles, gourmet dining and shopping.

JustWorld International looks forward to its involvement at the well-known CSI***** Brussels Horse Show following the success of its initial European introduction during July’s ‘Jump Eure’ competition, held just outside of Paris and organized by well-known French Olympian and ‘Jump for a Just World’ Advisory Board member, Herve Godignon. In Brussels, JustWorld International will be introduced during the Opening Night’s Gala Dinner on Thursday, November 11, and has been invited to take part in the prize giving ceremony for the Junior division, presenting the trophy to the winner as well as coolers and jackets to the top three international junior riders, all in an effort to raise awareness about JustWorld International’s humanitarian work. A signature JustWorld International jump, designed and donated by Brussels Horse Show course designer, Frank Rothenberger, will also be unveiled.

The Brussels Horse Show’s partnership with JustWorld International will bring greater visibility to the humanitarian organization, who will have a booth in the VIP Village where it will be selling merchandise, showing video footage from its project sites and distributing material about its work. With top-name riders including Kevin Babington, Angela Covert, Eric Lamaze, Rutherford Latham, Olivier Guillon, Candice King, Eric Navet and Ray Texel being just some of the well-known athletes supporting the efforts of JustWorld International, the ‘Jump for a Just World’ fundraising initiative has quickly grown.

“I am extremely thankful to tournament director Nelson Pessoa and all of the organizers for giving us this unique opportunity to raise our profile and promote our work on the international stage,” explained Jessica Newman, Executive Director of JustWorld International. “It is a great honour for a show of this caliber and prestige to choose JustWorld International as its charity. The Brussels Horse Show is going to be the indoor event of the year, and I am extremely proud that JustWorld will be a part of it.”

Newman gave up her own Grand Prix riding career in order to concentrate her efforts on founding and directing the humanitarian efforts of JustWorld International. Earlier this year, JustWorld International arranged for two of its Junior Representatives, Natalie Johnson and Jessica Speiser, both of the United States, to accompany Newman to one of its project sites in Honduras. There, the young women had the opportunity to witness first-hand the difference their support is making in the lives of those less privileged. Since becoming Junior Rider Representatives, both Johnson and Speiser have donated all of their prize money earnings to assist Honduran orphans.

Founded in 2002, JustWorld International offers fellowship programs for students from around the globe to learn leadership skills, the tools that they can use to make a positive difference in the world. With three project sites located in Cambodia, Honduras and Senegal, students are working for change in a wide variety of environments on behalf of JustWorld International.

Through various initiatives, including donating a portion of their prize money or giving clinics to benefit JustWorld International, riders are able to support the organization. Several additional ‘Jump For a Just World’ events are currently being planned including, pending funding, a project site visit to Honduras with the ‘Jump for a Just World’ rider representatives in February to give the athletes direct contact with the projects their efforts are helping to fund.
